Won’t be surprised if Karuna, Douglas arrested: TNA

untitledTNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran today said that he wouldn’t be surprised if former Minister Douglas Devananda or former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan were arrested in the wake of the arrest of Former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan on Sunday. Chandrakanthan (aka Pillaiyan) was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department on Sunday in connection with the killing of former TNA Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham, who was shot dead on December 25, 2005 in Batticaloa. When asked if Muralitharan or Devananda should also be arrested similarly, MP Sumanthiran said he wouldn’t be surprised if that happened. “There are substantial charges levelled against the two, even through the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) report. Therefore, I won’t be surprised if they were arrested like Pillaiyan,” he said. Former Deputy Minister Muralitharan, whose nom de guerre was Karuna Amman, served as LTTE top commander of the Eastern Province, before defecting to government and entering Sri Lankan main stream politics. –
