Tusindvis af tamiler fra hele Europa protesterede foran FN-hovedkvarteret i Genève i mandags og krævede en internationalt undersøgelse af “krigsforbrydelser” begået i Sri Lanka. Ifølge schweiziske nyhedsbureau protesterede omkring 2000 med bannere og plakater til fordel for selvbestemmelse for tamiler og fordømte “folkemorderiske handlinger” begået af Sri Lanka.

“Vi har beviser for krigsforbrydelser. Vi kræver retfærdighed,” erklærede nogle plakater, mens andre krævede, at Sri Lanka offentliggør sin “liste over de 18.000 fanger.”

De protesterende fordømte også brugen af tamilske børn som “sexslaver” og indførelsen af Singala sprog og buddhistisk religion hos tamilerne.

Demonstranterne krævede ligeledes, at FN`s Menneskerettighedsråd, der har møder indtil den 23. marts i Genève, vedtager en resolution om Sri Lanka.

“Tre år er gået, siden Sri Lankas regering annoncerede afslutningen af den væbnede konflikt, men hidtil har der ikke været taget skridt hen imod en permanent politisk løsning der matcher ønskerne for befolkningen i Tamil Eelam,” sagde en erklæring fra tamilsk samordningsudvalg (TCC) i Schweiz.

TCC Som er en front organisation for en fraktion af de Tamilske tigre i Europa ønskede også tilbagetrækning af hæren fra nord og øst på øen og afholdelse af en FN- organiseret folkeafstemning om ret til selvbestemmelse for tamiler.

Forrige mandag holdt en anden tamilsk gruppe, Den transnationale regering for Tamil Eelam, ligeledes en demonstration med de samme krav, her deltog også tusinde tamiler fra hele Europa.

Ingen af arrangørerne har dog oplyst til tamilerne, indholdet af den resolution som USA kommer med på FN`s menneskerettighedsråd om Sri Lanka og som de begge vil at tamilerne skal støtte. Flere kilder tyder på at USA kommer med en resolution til fordel for Sri Lanka, en resolution som afviser tamilernes ret til selvbestemmelse. Resolutionen vil kræve at Sri Lanka selv skal undersøge beskyldningerne og arbejde på at tamiler og singalesere forsones.

Flertallet af tamilerne ønsker ikke forsoning med deres bødler.
